Terrabellum
By Christopher Roe

The sky was bright
with rainbow fire
where no fire ought
to be

A towering wave swept
over the sleeping land
where no wave had been
before

The atmosphere was dense
with a sickly orange hue
where the gentle birds
once sang

Ancient ice floes melted
raising indifferent tides
where cities poke needles
into the sky

Our Mother wept and quaked
and her mountains fell
where once her children
played

A lifeless stone now spins
around the eternal flame
where a civilization fell victim
to itself

This poem makes me think of one thing only – Last March 11th in Japan- it haunts me when things like that happen.
    I feel helpless.
Poetry can help heal even the worst of things– help soouth the aching heart
    Thank you.
