The Simplest Thing
By Molly Frederick

The goddess of all grasses
has flown low today.
On crystal wings,
she parts
the satin threads,
dividing
silvery lines,
long and short,
into equal parts
of green.

Misty sky-breath
whistles across
tops and blades
of freshly combed grass.
Down it trickles,
like sumptuous oil,
to the dark roots
residing.

Affirming by life’s
dedication, precision,
and
attention to detail
even
the most minor
of the lesser
truths.
