Two, Together
By Molly Frederick
Under evening’s strongest lens,
a dusky spider’s shadow—
grows bolder.
Two separate spiders weave
their intricate webs.
Together they twist and spin,
tug and tie.
Engrossed in a traditional theme,
with no variation.
A more perfect union is scarcely
possible.
Though, soon, night will come
to sunder them.
And then the dusky spider, round
as a coat button, dark
as a chip of charcoal, will
draw in his eight nimble knees
tighter, to make of himself a home.
There he will reside,
inside the vast blue webs of night.
How beautiful. I am glad to see someone find the elegance in a creature so often portrayed as fearsome.
You spun a beautiful web.
