Don’t give me a medal
Don’t carve me a statue
Don’t build me a memorial
Comfort my baby
Comfort my wife
Comfort my mother
Comfort my father
Try to make them understand
That when I ran into that building
I was doing what my heart
Told me to do.
Try to make them understand
I was doing what I hope
Someone would do for them.
Try to make them believe it
Was worth it, even if
It wasn’t.
Don’t carve me a statue
Don’t build me a memorial
Comfort my baby
Comfort my wife
Comfort my mother
Comfort my father
Try to make them understand
That when I ran into that building
I was doing what my heart
Told me to do.
Try to make them understand
I was doing what I hope
Someone would do for them.
Try to make them believe it
Was worth it, even if
It wasn’t.
Wow!
