It's just poetry, it won't bite

You Say Love

04.29.10 Posted in today's words by

Visual artist and poet Ivan Jenson writes poetry that is as visual as anything he might put on a canvas (Mouth of BabesHunger StrikeThe Problem). We see inside his head and heart by looking at the word art he throws out for us. You can see more of his work at his web site.

You Say Love
By Ivan Jenson

you say love
and the first thing
that pops into my head
is the image of me
holding onto
that word like
a pillow
after
a person
has gone
or trying
to place
that word
inside my heart
saying
shhh …
when
it kicks
and cries
or
setting
love free
when it
learns to walk
and when
it grows up
waiting
for it to
come home
now
when
I say
love
what
comes
to your
mind?

Very visual and thought-provoking. Nicely done.

  3. This was beautiful Ivan,
This part especially resonated with me:

    holding onto
    that word like
    a pillow
    after
    a person
    has gone
    or trying
    to place
    that word
    inside my heart

Lovely imagery, clean and concise word usage. Thank you for sharing this piece with us.
