April on I-95 North
By Frieda Landau

Purple pink wildflowers and kudzu bearded pines
Sad cypress and weeping willows commiserate in the rain
Snowbirds speeding north in Porsches and Escalades
Mindful only of the flashing red and blue lights
Rest areas littered with vans disgorging children
RVs and trailers vie with 18-wheelers for shaded spots
Truck stops scream cheap gas and cheaper Disney tickets
Harleys grumble at crotch rockets buzzing by
Mile markers tally the distance northward
Springing forward into the new season

One Response to “April on I-95 North”

  1. Frieda, this was a great analogy of open spaces here and there.
