Contributor Series 8: Feast and Famine
food of angels

$3 will buy you the love
of a box
of cake mix.

the new experiment
of baking; not wanting to cook
(or be alone).

just add water, that’s all
it said. simple. low in fat.
38-48 minutes.

You’re on your way.

heating the house, the scent drifts
up the stairs, first sweet–
but the pending storm
clouds made their way to the windows
only half way in. Take it out.
Let it cool then taste the ashes.
While emptying the trash, I stopped
to think about the irony
of burning angel food cake–

I can still taste the smoke.
