Doves at Morning
By Nels Hanson

Gray pairs of ring-necked
doves in tallest eucalyptus
past train tracks’ rose now

golden rails and silver bay
trees’ unsleeping creek at
morning coo their hymns

first chorus prayer to risen
star, then trilling with pure
light begin, Awake? Alive?

Day breaks! I dreamed all
night, woke singing, asking
asking are you here again?
