Inspiration

Ailill’s poem I am appeared here as part of Contributor Series 5: Dramatis Personae. Where did Ailill get the inspiration to write Inspiration? In his words: “I wrote that after asking the question ‘what is inspiration’ to the I Ching at an online site. I received my reading, thought about it, and wrote the poem. Since then I have found out that other writers have consulted the I Ching for creativity.”

Inspiration
By Ailill

Asked, “what is inspiration?”
The Wise One responds,
“what is beginning?”

Lightning strikes.
Thunder calls from Heaven.

Sprouting wings,
ten thousand rose petals
float on an eastern wind.

Bear fruit to the Mountain Kings
for the songs that they bring.
