Is there such a thing

    as love? The moon beckons
us to love, its tide tugging
    at our hearts. And lust, too,
pulls at us tempting and pretending
    to be love. But is there such a thing
as love? Love that lasts, love pure
    and true? Or is desire a player,
love only his costume? I cannot
    answer, my friend. I question love,
all its glistening promise, wafting
    fragrance, swirling melody,
juicy fruit warm in the sun. I question
    every embrace, and when
his lips, sweet and soft, find mine
    my heart pretends …
